Last night, I was invited over to Ps. Jeremy's place for steamboat dinner along with my ex-churchmate from NLS and his dad. Boy, was that the best steamboat I've ever had; it was simple, yet tasty!
When we arrived at pastor's house, Phileo Wong - yes, the dog has a surname too, people send postcards to this dog you know, and apparently he can read too- greeted us ever so warmly by sniffing our feet and barking cheerfully... Then came the Khoo family and Jem Goh, and within minutes, it was time to DIG IN! ;p
Pastor and aunt Carol made roast pork; uncle Andrew had taught them apparently, I wanna make one too one of these days. Aunt Margaret had already finished prepping the steampot the minute she stepped into the house, the soup was boiling furiously, waiting to consume its first victims... And as the soup came to boil, we lifted the lid of the steampot and the mouth-watering aroma filled the entire hall; in went the first batch.
Fishball, diced lamb, har kow (prawn dumplings), enoki mushrooms, and my personal favourite: chew zhou fishballs. At first, I thought it was merely like any other fishballs, but when I took a bite, just like in those cooking movies, the tasty juice that was stored up in the fishball after being boiled for a while flowed out, and there was even meat inside! Oh man, that was tasty! And being the selfish person I am, I ate them all, leaving not a single one for anyone else... (you know that's a lie, haha)
The real fun begins after the meal, cos then the parents started to talk about Migration!!! lol, ok it wasnt that bad, just looks nicer in bold, haha... so then, the conversation goes like this :
*Note : The exact words of the conversation was not recorded so that I could replay it and write about it in my blog, so if I've made any mistakes, pls sue me, but I think its close enough... ;p
Pastor J : "So Philip, have any thoughts of migrating to australia?"
Uncle Philip : "Yea, I've thought of that sometimes, and it just might be better of than Malaysia, but then, you know my wife and about family..."
Uncle Khoo : "Well, that's one thing, but do you know how Aussie life really is, after settling down and all that?"
Pastor J : "Its quiet." And a streak of silence follows... "Ah well, there's always us around!!" And they all burst into laughter.
Jem Goh : "But you've gotta weigh the situation as well..." Just then, everyone listened ever so intently. "Well, no more tasty RM4 authentic char kuey teow anymore, just $10 chapalang (crappy) char kuey teow here..."
Uncle Philip : "Hmm, true also. That's a tough decision to make..."
And the chatter went on and on, that was a wonderful dinner. ;)
Reminder :
